Conceived as both a spatial and conceptual proposition, the exhibition considers the horizon not merely as a line that separates sky and earth, but as a threshold — a site of projection, desire, and transformation. In a time marked by uncertainty and acceleration, the horizon becomes a metaphor for orientation. It asks: What do we move toward? What remains just beyond reach? How do we imagine futures when the present feels unstable? The artists gathered in this exhibition respond to these questions through diverse practices — painting, sculpture, installation, and mixed media — each articulating a personal yet interconnected perspective on beauty, fragility, and renewal. Rather than proposing a single narrative, A Beautiful Horizon unfolds as a constellation of positions. Some works confront ecological and social realities; others turn inward, exploring intimacy, memory, and perception. Together, they reveal the horizon as an active space — one shaped by cultural frameworks, political climates, and inner landscapes. It is both external and internal, collective and individual. The museum context underscores a key tension within the show: how contemporary artists negotiate heritage while envisioning new forms of expression. Ultimately, A Beautiful Horizon is not an endpoint but an invitation. It proposes beauty not as escapism, but as an act of attention. It suggests that horizons are not fixed — they shift as we move, as we learn, as we create. What appears distant today may become tomorrow’s ground. The exhibition stands as a shared gesture: 24 artists, multiple geographies, one horizon – open, unfolding, and still becoming. 06 A BEAUTIFUL HORIZON A Beautiful Horizon reúne a artistas contemporáneos en una reflexión colectiva sobre la visión, la distancia y la posibilidad. Concebida como una propuesta tanto espacial como conceptual, la exposición considera el horizonte no simplemente como una línea que separa el cielo de la tierra, sino como un umbral: un lugar de proyección, deseo y transformación. En una época marcada por la incertidumbre y la aceleración, el horizonte se convierte en una metáfora de orientación. Plantea preguntas esenciales: ¿hacia dónde nos dirigimos? ¿Qué permanece justo más allá de nuestro alcance? ¿Cómo imaginamos el futuro cuando el presente parece inestable? As it usually happens in the visual realm, phenomena first occur within us spectators, and not in the objects to which we devote our gaze. That is to say, when we see a landscape, what we witness above all is what we suppose the experience of what is natural in the territory is, and thus we carelessly project our expectations and desires onto a segment of the planet, making it the object of our contemplation. For example, the beautiful landscapes of the tourist imaginary are always a fictional nature, an assemblage of visual clichés that has been articulated practically since the Baroque period in Western painting. In Tagle’s work, the "ideological" is situated in the selection of landscapes, which, as we know, appeal to an aestheticism that is typical of tourism. Many of his selected images from different places in Chile are strictly fantasies, since they are now far removed from those perfect images that condense in themselves what the tourist expects from a territory like Chile (generally presented as untamed and extreme). At present, some of these beaches or deserts have been modified by the tourism industry itself, or by mining, which is the great threat to nature in the Chilean territory. Therefore, the snapshot provided by tourist photography operates here as a ruin: what we see is gone. Tagle's landscapes are also a fantasy, a dystopian vision of what lies ahead in a world that has already been heavily intervened. Forms that seem to be organic, almost vegetal-like, appear between pipes, as if they were branches trying to recover what was once theirs. Responding to what is perceived as a growing absence of depth in contemporary culture, the work invites viewers to confront the tensions between appearance and authenticity. In the Posthuman series, identity emerges as a constructed and performative condition. Created entirely through handcrafted staging and photography, without artificial intelligence or digital manipulation, the works reveal masks, imperfections, and vulnerabilities often concealed beneath contemporary ideals of perfection. Rather than presenting flawless identities, the series embraces instability and imperfection as essential aspects of the human experience. Themes of transformation and mortality continue in the Butterflies series, where the butterfly becomes a symbol of beauty, fragility, love, and loss. The recurring image of the black butterfly or moth evokes the paradox of desire—an attraction toward forces that may ultimately consume us. Through these symbolic forms, the work reflects on the fleeting nature of existence and the complexities of emotional attachment.
