Description:
Welcome to the 2026 Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame. Tonight we honor remarkable athletes, coaches and teams whose accomplishments became part of Rockland County sports history. Different generations. Different sports. One shared legacy of dedication, leadership and excellence. For Frank Consiglio, it began with a golf club at eight years old. At Suffern High School, he became an exceptional four-sport athlete—and during his entire high school career, Frank never lost a golf match. At nineteen, he even had the opportunity to play—and beat—the legendary Babe RutWorld War Two interrupted Frank's golf career when he joined the Marines and served in the Solomon Islands and Guadalcanal. When he returned home, golf remained part of his life for seven decades. He set numerous course records and played until age eighty-nine. Frank liked to say, “You can never beat the game of golf, as it all takes place between your ears.”Joe Campoli receives the William “Gibby” Sweet Coaches Award posthumously. A standout athlete at Tappan Zee, basketball was Joe's first love. His work ethic, unselfishness, leadership and character helped make him an outstanding point guard—and would eventually define his career as a coach.Joe's journey took him from Tappan Zee to the University of Rhode Island and eventually to a distinguished collegiate coaching career. His influence reached far beyond the college season. His Bear Basketball Camp welcomed more than twenty-five thousand young athletes over twenty-five summers. Joe devoted a lifetime to teaching, coaching and helping athletes reach their potential.Jerry Magurno is also honored with the William “Gibby” Sweet Coaches Award. After graduating from Tuxedo High School and Manhattan College, Jerry began a career in education that ultimately brought him to Suffern, where he would spend thirty-one years teaching, coaching and serving his community.Jerry coached football, basketball, tennis and baseball, and spent his final five years at Suffern as Athletic Director. But championships tell only part of his story. Those who knew Jerry remembered an unassuming and modest man—supportive, fair and dedicated to giving young people the opportunity to pursue their dreams. In 1980, Jerry's Suffern Mounties captured the Section Nine Class A baseball championship with a four-to-nothing victory over Ramapo at West Point's Doubleday Field. Jerry credited a defense that had grown stronger as the season progressed. The players described something even more important: they had come together like a family. The 1975 Nanuet Boys' Track Team proved that a school's size didn't determine the size of its accomplishments. More than seventy athletes strong, Coach Dave Hanson's Golden Knights combined extraordinary numbers, depth and talent. This was a team built to compete in every event. That spring, Nanuet captured the Rockland County and Section Nine Class B championships and earned a number-five statewide ranking. Across three seasons—cross-country, winter track and spring track—the Golden Knights earned the number-one collective ranking in New York State for the 1974–75 school year, regardless of school size.
