We're presenting a comprehensive report on the Refresher Course in Library and Information Science, held from July 23rd to August 5th, 2026. This intensive program, organized by the UGC-MMTC Mizoram University in collaboration with the Department of Library & Information Science, Mizoram University, Aizawl, delved into various critical aspects shaping the future of libraries and information professionals. Throughout the course, a series of insightful sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons, covering topics from research data management to the integration of artificial intelligence in library services. The inaugural session, led by Prof. Devika Madalli, underscored the evolving role of libraries and the importance of continuous professional development for LIS professionals, emphasizing technology-enabled library services and lifelong learning. Key sessions included an exploration of research data management and the vital role of libraries, presented by Prof. A.R.D. Prasad, who highlighted libraries as key stakeholders in data organization and curation. Dr. Shantanu Ganguly discussed open research and its impact on society, stressing the importance of open science and knowledge dissemination. We also examined the relevance, resilience, and reinvention of libraries in the AI age with Dr. Nivedita Bhattacharyya Sahu, focusing on AI's transformative impact on information services and user experience. Dr. Lata Sursh addressed libraries as knowledge bridges, connecting traditional wisdom with modern research and emphasizing the preservation of indigenous knowledge systems. The course further delved into reimagining the library ecosystem, next-generation libraries through AI, and scholarly communication, with Dr. Meghna Vyas and Dr. Shilpi Verma leading these discussions respectively. The curriculum was designed to provide participants with a holistic understanding of current trends and future challenges in the library and information science domain.
