We've seen a rise in higher education enrollment to 45 million students, with a target of 50% GER by 2035.We're proud to share that gender parity has improved, with a GPI of 1.08. Furthermore, SC enrollment jumped 51.4% and ST enrollment spiked by 75.7% over the last decade, bridging critical gaps.Our digital ecosystem is thriving! STEM enrollment is over 1 crore students, with a 44% female share. 45% of universities offer multidisciplinary courses, and 65% have R&D cells.On the ground, we see significant structural adoption. 58% of universities use the NCCF, 56% offer 4-year undergraduate degrees, and 51% follow the NHEQF standards.Higher Educational Insitutues in India are committed to employability and global integration. 58% of institutions have MoUs for industry linkage, another 58% run incubation hubs, and 26% have international collaborations.We at Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU) as per NEP-2020 policy, offer flexible learning pathways, including multiple entry/exit points and multidisciplinary education. The Academic Bank of Credits allows seamless credit transfer, enhancing student mobility.The digital backbone of education is strengthening. Online degrees are now permitted, content is being created in regional languages, and virtual labs like DIKSHA and SWAYAM offer interactive experiences.However, challenges remain. India's higher education system faces a quality crisis due to weak social bases and limited local engagement. Graduates often lack specific job-ready skills.To address this, we should be emphasizing skills for the future. Our focus includes conceptual understanding, vocational integration, lifelong learning, and aligning curricula with industry needs for job-ready graduates.
