Foreign languages are an integral part of the education at the Business School. For this reason, you have to choose one of the four foreign languages offered right at the beginning of your studies and complete a curriculum consisting of four courses in the language of your choice.These courses build on each other with increasing proficiency levels (*), so you can only take one per semester. Please inform the course instructor in good time and proactively when you have planned your semester abroad! (*) Level of the courses : From A2 [prerequisite for participation in the entry course] → B2.2 [target level of the 4th and last course]. More information on these levels can be found here.→ Please note that in some languages each course is only offered every two semesters; in that case, it is only possible to join the language training programme in the winter semester. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you start your language training in the first winter semester and, if possible, complete it in the first four semesters of your degree programme. → The Language Placement Interview (*) is an absolute prerequisite for the registration for the first language course (Communicative Skills) ! B1.1 (*) Deviations possible, in particular in the Business & Culture course 2 intermediate tests (approx. 30-40 min., 20 and 25 points respectively) 1 final test (90 min., 40 points, grade must be positive) 1 oral examination (approx. 10-15 minutes, 15 points) The course is considered positively completed if you have attended at least 80% of the courses (no exceptions!) and achieved at least 55 points out of a total of 100. 1st term B. They can be selected as part of your elective courses. Please note → The Italian course Mittelstufe is only offered in the summer semester ! (**) Refresher course (four-hour weekly course in the first half of the winter term) : for example for learners with 1–3 years of experience in the language in question or who have not practiced it for 2–3 years. Important notes! Grundkurs, Mittelstufe and the refresher course are paid courses. The registration fee is refundable. More information here and there.Please make an appointment for an about 20-minute language placement interview with the teacher of the first course in the IBA program ("Communicative Skills", see below) in order to be able to register for it. These interviews take place on 18 and 21 September for French/Italian/Spanish and on 15, 16, 17, 21 and 22 September for German. Compulsory Language Placement Interview (September 2026)If you already have an internationally recognized language certificate or school record for your chosen language please send it by 12 September at the latest to the teacher in charge of the interview (see below). In that case you might not need an interview. These interviews take place at the Center for Business Languages and Intercultural Communication (or exceptionally online if you have not yet arrived in Austria or if you are unable for good reason to come to the campus). If necessary, contact your teacher a few days before the interview to find out in which room it will take place. Registration deadline: 12 September 2026
