Taking Care of Grandparents! By Language of the MindHi friends! I am Berry, and today I am spending time with my grandparents. I want my grandparents to be safe and have fun, too. Can you help me? Come on, let’s go on an adventure! Before our trip, we need to pack supplies. We need a bag to put tissues, a water bottle, a phone, and a wallet.Time to get ready! Remember to wear a warm coat, a watch, and hearing aids. Also wear a hat and sunglasses when going outside. On our journey, we need our magical tools. A walker and cane help our grandparents balance. A wheelchair or scooter helps give our grandparents a break from walking and can move them faster. Our sweet ride is here! Let’s help our grandparents get in the car. Remember to move your tail towards the seat first, sit, and then turn to face forward. If the car is too high, using a stool gives you an extra boost! We arrived at the restaurant, but it has stairs. Uh oh. What do we do? Don’t worry, we’ll take it one step at a time. To go up the stairs, start with the dominant or non injured leg. To go down the stairs, start with the non dominant or injured leg. “The good leg goes up to heaven, the bad leg goes down to the underworld.”The food looks delicious! We don’t want to make a mess so let’s wear our bibs with fancy designs. Don't my grandparents look nice?I love talking with my grandparents. I ask them to tell me stories or sing songs from their childhood. I also like to compliment them. Sometimes it’s hard for them to understand or remember what I say. That’s okay. I just repeat the simple phrase slower, louder, and in a lower tone.Playing games with my grandparents is super fun. Simple games like Pat A Cake don’t need any toys. Just clap your hands and sing!
