This show follows some incredible recent successes, including the NODA South-East Regional Award for Footloose (February 2025) and the Spotlight Award for Best Large Youth Production for Oklahoma! (February 2026) - these awards are testament and rightful recognition of the exceptional standards achieved by our young performers and creative team. This is made all the more impressive as performing arts groups like ours must navigate an increasingly challenging financial and regulatory environment, which requires us to constantly adapt, evolve, and find creative ways to manage rising production costs, whilst keeping up to date and rigorously adhering to ever developing safeguarding and statutory requirements. Our successes, and very existence, is only made possible due to the commitment of our extraordinary volunteers who give their time to help with production, costumes, fundraising, chaperoning and everything else that is so vital to keeping an organisation like Stage One going. Bringing this updated, imaginative version of Wonderland to life has been an inspiring journey. Our rehearsal process is designed to be far more than just a path to opening night; it is a creative, self-confidence-building experience where our young people can safely challenge themselves, build vital life resilience, and truly feel free to be themselves. Seeing our incredible cast embrace these values to deliver authentic, high-energy performances has been an absolute privilege. I am immensely grateful to our passionate creative team, whose visionary guidance encourages these talented individuals to thrive both on and off the stage, and I am equally grateful for all the people who give their time to supervise, chaperone and look after the welfare of all the children and young people in our charge. We will always look back with pride on over 45 years of Stage One history; just like our forebears, our determination to push boundaries remains stronger than ever. As such, we are already looking towards our 2027 programme and are truly excited to bring Hadestown to The Festival Hall next October - yet again, this will be a new show for Stage One and is a rare chance to licence and perform a show whilst it is still playing in the West End. Added to that, our new Stage One Juniors will be premiering Diary of a Wimpy Kid (60-minute edition) in January 2027. This ambitious expansion and forward momentum are the perfect reflection of how Stage One continues to evolve, ensuring we offer exciting opportunities for our members (and new challenges for our creative and production teams!). Once again, thank you for joining us for this performance. We hope you enjoy the show and we look forward to welcoming you back to many more Stage One productions and events. CHAIRPERSONS BIO Steve has been a proud part of the Stage One family since 2012, starting exactly where the heavy lifting happens - backstage shifting scenery! Over the years, he graduated (or was pushed!) into the chaotic world of stage management before stepping into his current role as Chair. True to his backstage roots, Steve firmly believes his main job is to keep the cogs turning smoothly so that the true stars of the show can shine. He is incredibly proud of the immense dedication shown by the cast, the tireless creative team, and our army of volunteers, and he cannot wait to see everyone’s hard work rewarded with another spectacular show week. THANKS!!!! We would like to thank everyone who has supported Stage One during the process of this production, especially our business sponsors, Current Solutions Electrical and NISA Cosham for donating so generously to our raffle, and Sean Codling of CTS Europe for the donation of van hire to transport set, props and costumes. Jen Althorpe (The Great Little Photographer) for headshots, rehearsal and location photos. Photoshoot location: MAD HATTERZ COFFEE HOUSE, 85 London Road, Cowplain, Waterlooville - A Wonderland inspired coffee house, specialising in Afternoon Teas and traditional food. Our chaperones and backstage helpers who have given up their time to care for our young performers, without them, the show can’t happen! Everyone who donated to the raffle, and bought tickets to help fund-raise toward show costs. Our welcoming Front of House team. Sean Ridley and all the team at The Festival Hall for all their help and for making us feel so welcome. UK Flyers for providing design and print, including our programme, marketing and show clothing...and last but not least our wonderful cast and their families for such dedication to rehearsals over the last few months! A graduate of the Guildford School of Acting (GSA), Paul has built a distinguished career centred on artistic excellence and the development of emerging talent. Paul has a long-standing relationship with Stage One and is deeply aligned with its mission. He is dedicated to nurturing young talent, equipping performers with the skills and discipline required for high quality production work, and fostering an environment in which students grow in confidence, resilience, and creativity. The introduction of Stage One Jr marks an exciting expansion of this mission, enabling even younger performers to access professional level training and develop their skills from an earlier stage. Paul is delighted to bring Frank Wildhorn’s Wonderland to the stage, collaborating with Choreographer Helen and Musical Director Harry on a production that has been fun, crazy, ambitious, and wonderfully experimental. With all the ingredients for audiences to lose themselves in the magical world of Alice and Wonderland, this production embraces creativity, imagination, and the unexpected at every turn. Paul has found it especially rewarding to watch so many young performers step outside their comfort zones, take artistic risks, and rise to the challenge of creating something truly different. Using a thrust stage configuration, the production offers a highly immersive experience, placing audiences at the heart of the action and drawing them directly into Wonderland’s extraordinary adventure. Paul is exceptionally proud of the young cast whose professionalism, commitment, courage, and talent have helped bring this unique vision to life. He would like to give special thanks to his amazing family, Their love, care, and constant support mean everything to him and make all that he does possible. Enjoy the show. Helen Wallis is a professional choreographer, performer, director and teacher whose career has been shaped by a lifelong passion for musical theatre and, in particular, by her work with young performers. She is the Company Director and Principal of TADAA Ltd (The Alternative Dramatic Arts Academy), where she continues to inspire and develop the next generation of performers. Helen also runs two festivals locally; Finale Festival in November and Speech and Drama for PFPA in February. Choreography has always been at the heart of Helen’s creative career. She has worked extensively with Stage One Youth Theatre, a place that holds a particularly special place in her professional journey, especially as she was once a member from age 6-18. Working on Wonderland has been incredible as the choreography needed to be different to anything she has done before, really exploring character identity and chaos. She has recently completed her MA Theatre at Guildford School of Acting and is also a published writer, having contributed a chapter to Spotlight On Success. The chapter fondly reflects on her experiences from a little girl until now with a special mention for Stage One! Helen is a busy Mum of two and is always so grateful to her family and friends for all of the love and support throughout her theatrical journey. She hopes you enjoy this bonkers show and all of the choreography involved. A special thank you to her dance captain Tayla who has been a wonderful support for the choreographic process.
