Description:
Welcome to our Health & Safety Retreat! Today, we're diving into WHMIS and our Hazardous Goods Policy to ensure everyone's safety. Why WHMIS? It's Canada's standard for chemical hazard communication, giving us the 'Right to Know' and preventing workplace injuries.WHMIS relies on three pillars: clear Labels, detailed Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and comprehensive Education & Training for all of us.In our dental office, we encounter various hazardous goods daily, from disinfectants to X-ray chemicals. Knowing them is key to safety.Understanding WHMIS 2015 hazard symbols is vital. Each pictogram signals specific dangers, ensuring we handle substances safely.Let's break down these pictograms: Corrosive, Gas Under Pressure, Exclamation Mark, Flame, and Health Hazard each indicate unique risks.Product labels are crucial. Supplier labels come from manufacturers, while workplace labels are for transferred chemicals and must include specific details.Safety Data Sheets are our blueprint! This 16-section document, found in the Business Room, details chemical information, especially first-aid and PPE.Safe handling is paramount. Never mix chemicals, always use full PPE during transfer, pour slowly, and cap containers immediately to prevent exposure.Proper storage protocols are essential. Keep incompatible chemicals separate, secure gas cylinders, and always store liquids below eye level to prevent splashes.
